Amid widespread damage to rabi crops due to unseasonal rain, hailstorms and isolated fire incidents, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to ensure immediate and transparent relief for affected farmers and sharecroppers.
Chairing a high-level review meeting in Lucknow, the Chief Minister emphasised the need for swift assessment and compensation, stating that the government stands firmly with farmers during this period of distress. He instructed authorities to conduct fair and time-bound surveys and ensure that relief payments are not delayed.
Officials have been asked to strengthen coordination at the district level among revenue, agriculture and allied departments to expedite loss assessments. The Chief Minister also directed close coordination with insurance companies to ensure quick settlement of claims under crop insurance schemes.
To facilitate relief distribution, funds from the State Disaster Relief Fund are to be released immediately to districts, with District Magistrates tasked with ensuring prompt and transparent disbursal. Relief camps are to be set up where required, while mandi committees have been asked to extend full support to farmers.
Taking note of fire-related losses, the Chief Minister directed that compensation for loss of life and livestock be provided within 24 hours. He also instructed that eligible beneficiaries be covered under the Krishak Durghatna Bima Yojana, while families whose homes have been damaged will be prioritised under the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana.
Warning against negligence, the Chief Minister said accountability of officials will be strictly enforced, reiterating that reaching every affected farmer remains the government’s top priority.
