Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday met Canadian High Commissioner Christopher Cooter in Lucknow to discuss strengthening investment and technology collaboration between India and Canada, with a focus on Uttar Pradesh.
The meeting centred on enhancing bilateral cooperation across key sectors including green energy, artificial intelligence, defence, critical minerals and advanced technology, as both sides explored opportunities to deepen economic engagement.
Cooter highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s emergence as a key investment destination, citing improvements in infrastructure, governance and policy reforms. “The state has made significant progress and is becoming a reliable and attractive hub for global investors,” he said, adding that India–Canada trade and investment ties have strong potential for expansion.
The Canadian side expressed interest in long-term investments and technology partnerships, particularly in sustainable energy and clean technology, aligning with the state’s development priorities. Cooter also underscored the importance of collaboration in education and research, noting that partnerships between Canadian institutions and those in Uttar Pradesh could boost skill development, innovation and talent exchange.
Adityanath, in turn, emphasised the state’s investor-friendly environment and ongoing industrial growth, inviting Canadian companies to explore opportunities across sectors. He highlighted initiatives such as the Defence Industrial Corridor and the BrahMos project as indicators of Uttar Pradesh’s expanding industrial capabilities.
“The state government is committed to providing a transparent and stable policy framework, along with institutional support, to facilitate investment and innovation-led partnerships,” the Chief Minister said.
Both sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation in investment, technology collaboration and skill development, signalling a renewed push to deepen India–Canada economic ties at the state level.
