The Government of Uttar Pradesh has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Japan’s Yamanashi Prefecture on green hydrogen technology, during the UP Investment Road Show in Yamanashi, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced.
Under the agreement, students from higher technical institutions in Uttar Pradesh will receive advanced training in Japan, with the acquired technology to be deployed across the state’s industrial, public transport and energy sectors. The Chief Minister said the initiative would significantly contribute towards achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Net Zero target.
Addressing investors, Adityanath said Uttar Pradesh has shifted from a reactive to a proactive governance model over the past nine years, laying the foundation for accelerated economic growth. He highlighted the state’s progress in tripling per capita income and expanding its economic base, positioning it among India’s fastest-growing economies.
The Chief Minister added that the UP delegation held multiple government-to-government and government-to-business meetings in Tokyo, engaging Japanese industry groups with support from the Indian Embassy. He thanked the Yamanashi administration for advancing investment dialogue and strengthening bilateral cooperation.
Calling robotics a key future technology, Adityanath said the state budget provides for establishing a Robotics Centre of Excellence, aimed at promoting advanced manufacturing and innovation. He expressed confidence that collaboration with Yamanashi would elevate India–Japan relations while supporting energy self-reliance and technology adoption.
Yamanashi Governor Kotaro Nagasaki, Vice Governor Junichi Ishidera, Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna, Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’, and India’s Ambassador to Japan Nagma Malik were among those present at the event.
