Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin a two-day visit to his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi on Tuesday, during which he is set to address the ‘Jan Aakrosh Mahila Sammelan’ and unveil development projects worth Rs 6,322 crore.
The event, organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party at Bareka Ground, is expected to draw around 50,000 women participants. In a symbolic move, the entire conference, including management and security arrangements, will be handled by women, with women police personnel deployed across the venue.
The gathering will focus on issues such as women’s dignity, safety, self-reliance and equal opportunities.
During the visit, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for 163 projects aimed at accelerating development in Varanasi and the wider Purvanchal region. The package includes 50 completed projects worth Rs 1,054.69 crore and foundation stones for 113 new schemes valued at Rs 5,277.39 crore.
Modi will also flag off two new Amrit Bharat Express services connecting Banaras to Pune (Hadapsar) and Ayodhya to Mumbai (Lokmanya Tilak Terminus), improving long-distance rail connectivity
The projects cover a wide range of sectors, including roads, railway overbridges, flyovers, drinking water supply, sewerage networks, sanitation, hospitals, educational institutions, tourism facilities, sports infrastructure and renewable energy.
Among key inaugurations are the four-laning of the Varanasi-Azamgarh road, a 55 MLD sewage treatment plant in Bhagwanpur, rural drinking water schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission and a synthetic hockey turf at UP College Ground.
Foundation stones will also be laid for a 500-bed multi super-speciality hospital, mechanised parking at Assi Ghat, an integrated divisional office building and multiple tourism enhancement projects along the ghats.
The Prime Minister is also expected to transfer a Rs 105 crore bonus to lakhs of dairy farmers associated with Banas (Amul).
Modi will arrive in Varanasi on Tuesday afternoon and travel by helicopter to the rally venue. On Wednesday morning, he is scheduled to offer prayers at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple and may meet local representatives and party workers.
The visit is being seen as a major political and developmental outreach, reinforcing the government’s focus on infrastructure growth and regional development in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
